貪欲なる「時」よ、獅子の爪を鈍らせ
大地にその愛しい我が子をむさぼらせ
獰猛な虎の顎からその鋭い牙を抜き取り
不老の不死鳥には己おのが血で焼かせよ。

おまえが駆け去るとき、喜びの季節とも悲しみの季節とも
何とでも好き勝手にするがいい、駆け足の「時」よ
だが、この広い世界と儚いすべての美に対しては
ただひとつ、最も憎むべき罪をおまえに禁じる

わたしが愛する人の美しい額におまえの時間を刻んでくれるな
彼の額におまえの古ぼけた筆で線を引いてくれるな
おまえが進む道で彼を汚してくれるな
後世の人々に美の模範として残すために。

　　だが、老いた「時」よ、おまえがどんな最悪なことをしようと
　　わたしの恋人はこの詩の中で永遠に若さを保つ。

Devouring time, blunt thou the lion’s paws,
And make the earth devour her own sweet brood;
Pluck the keen teeth from the fierce tiger’s jaws,
And burn the long-lived Phoenix in her blood;
Make glad and sorry seasons as thou fleet’st,
And do whate’er thou wilt, swift-footed time,
To the wide world and all her fading sweets:
But I forbid thee one most heinous crime,
O carve not with thy hours my love’s fair brow,
Nor draw no lines there with thine antique pen;
Him in thy course untainted do allow
For beauty’s pattern to succeeding men.
　Yet do thy worst, old Time, despite thy wrong,
　My love shall in my verse ever live young.
