きみがやったことを嘆くのはもうよしたまえ
薔薇には刺があり、澄んだ泉も濁るものだ
雲や蝕しょくは月と太陽を陰らせ
美しい蕾には嫌われものの毛虫が棲みつくものだ。

すべて人は過ちを犯すもの、わたしもこの詩の中で
この譬えに倣ってきみの過あやま ちを正当化し
わたし自身を堕落させ、きみの罪をかばい
必要以上にその罪を許している。

きみの官能の罪の弁護に分別を持ち出すが
きみに敵対する者はきみの弁護人でもあるので
わたし自身を相手に訴訟を起こし、わたしの
愛と憎しみの間で内乱が生じている。

　　そこでわたしは共犯者にならざるをえない
　　わたしから残酷に奪う美しい盗人に対して。

No more be grieved at that which thou hast done;
Roses have thorns, and silver fountains mud;
Clouds and eclipses stain both moon and sun,
And loathsome canker lives in sweetest bud.
All men make faults, and even I, in this,
Authorizing thy trespass with compare,
Myself corrupting, salving thy amiss,
Excusing these sins more than these sins are:
For to thy sensual fault I bring in sense;
Thy adverse party is thy advocate,
And ’gainst myself a lawful plea commence:
Such civil war is in my love and hate
　That I an accessory needs must be
　To that sweet thief which sourly robs from me.
