愛の神は分別が何たるかを知るには幼すぎる
だが、分別が愛から生まれることは誰もが知っている
だから、やさしい顔をして騙す人よ、わたしの過ちを責めれば
わたしが犯した過ちは、美しいおまえの罪だと分かる。

おまえがわたしを裏切るので、わたしも裏切り
わたしの高貴な魂を卑しい肉体の反逆に委ねる
わたしの魂がわたしの肉体に言うには、肉体は
愛に勝利すると。肉欲は理性を待たず

おまえの名を聞けば立ち上がり、おまえにまっしぐら
肉欲の戦利品、獲物に得意満面となる
肉体はおまえの惨めな労役者となることに満足し
おまえの情事に加担し、おまえのそばに倒れる。

　　わたしが分別を欠いていると思わないでくれ
　　彼女を｢恋人｣と呼び、愛ゆえに立ち、倒れようとも。

Love is too young to know what conscience is:
Yet who knows not conscience is born of love?
Then, gentle cheater, urge not my amiss,
