それで、今や彼はおまえのものであり
わたし自身、おまえの意のままとなる抵当であることを認め
自分を没収されてもよい、わたしの分身を
返してもらって、いつまでもわたしの慰めにできるなら。

だが、おまえはそうしようとしないし、彼も自由になろうとしない
おまえは貪欲で、彼は情け深いから
彼はわたしのために保証人のように署名することしか知らなかったが
その証文に固く縛られ身動きが取れない。

おまえは、自分の美という権利書を楯に取り
あらゆるものに利子をつける高利貸
わたしのために負債者となった友を訴えようとする
それで、わたしは自分の心ない仕打ちで彼を失うことになる。

　　わたしは彼を失い、おまえは彼とわたしを手に入れた
　　彼がすべてを支払っても、わたしの身は自由にならない。

So now I have confessed that he is thine,
And I myself am mortgaged to thy will,
Myself I’ll forfeit, so that other mine
Thou wilt restore to be my comfort still;
But thou wilt not, nor he will not be free,
For thou art covetous, and he is kind;
He learned but surety-like to write for me,

The statute of thy beauty thou wilt take,
Thou usurer, that put’st forth all to use,
And sue a friend, came debtor for my sake:
So him I lose through my unkind abuse.
