きみは衰えるのと同じ早さで成長する
きみが分け与えた子のきみの分身の中で
若い時に与えたその新鮮な血を、きみが
若さを失ったとき、わが子と呼ぶことができる。

このようにして、智と、美と、子孫は生きる
そうしなければ、愚劣と、老いと、冷たい死
みながきみと同じ考えを持てばこの世は終わり
六十年もすれば世界は滅びてしまうだろう。

自然が子孫繁栄のために作ったものではないもの
がさつで、醜く、粗野なものは、子のないまま絶えさせるがいい
自然は最上のものを与えたものにさらなる力を与える
きみはその気前のよい贈物を豊かに育はぐくむべきだ。

　　自然が自分の刻印のためにきみを彫り刻んだのは
　　複製を増やすためで原型をなくすためではない。

As fast as thou shalt wane, so fast thou grow’st
In one of thine, from that which thou departest;
And that fresh blood which youngly thou bestow’st
Thou mayst call thine, when thou from youth convertest;
Herein lives wisdom, beauty and increase;
Without this, folly, age and cold decay.

Harsh, featureless and rude, barrenly perish;
Look whom she best endowed, she gave the more,
Which bounteous gift thou shouldst in bounty cherish:
　She carved thee for her seal, and meant thereby
　Thou shouldst print more, not let that copy die.
