わたし個人の心配事も世間一般の憶測も
来たるべき事態を想像しては
限りある運命の定めとしての罰と思っていたが
もはやわたしの真の愛の期限を支配することはできない。

この世の月とも仰ぐ方は月食を耐え忍んで来られ
悲観論者の占い師の予言は見事に外れた
不安は今や安心を冠に戴き
平和が永遠の平和の象徴オリーブを宣告する。

今やこの最も穏和な時代の恩恵によって
わたしの愛は蘇り、死はわたしに屈従する
わたしはこの貧しい詩の中に生き続け、死をものともしないが
一方で死は、もの言うすべのない輩やからには高慢に振る舞う。

　　そして、きみはこの詩の中にきみの記念碑を見出すだろう
　　暴君の紋章や真鍮の墓が朽ち果てた後も。

Not mine own fears, nor the prophetic soul
Of the wide world, dreaming on things to come,
Can yet the lease of my true love control,
Supposed as forfeit to a confined doom.
The mortal moon hath her eclipse endured,
And the sad augurs mock their own presage;
Uncertainties now crown themselves assured,
And peace proclaims olives of endless age.
Now with the drops of this most balmy time
My love looks fresh, and death to me subscribes,
Since ’spite of him I’ll live in this poor rhyme,
While he insults o’er dull and speechless tribes;
　And thou in this shalt find thy monument,
　When tyrants’ crests and tombs of brass are spent.
